A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

HP NDA. Sign it or Not!

Should we leave this behind and move on or go back and sign the NDA?
A couple months ago, I would say move on… Now, I think we have a good chance to sign the NDA, have a good relationship with HP, and not allow HP to basicly run my site. (oh, if you are wondering, I am talking about iPaqHQ.com)

History
On June 18, 2004 I received an email invitation from HP to join their "Web Evangelist Program". The NDA that we would have had to sign was REAL restrictive and called for all out censorship on the site. I could not agree to this and along with many sites, we did not sign the NDA.

The weekend prior to the release of the 1st of many new iPaqs to come a couple sites began to remove references to "rumored" models as well as adding "not affiliated with HP" on thier sites. Clearly these sites accepted HP’s rules.

No problem, I will buy the models, review them and sell or give away. (hx4700 to my dad) Things are going smoothly and despite not having an inside track, iPaqHQ.com is growing fast and has a bunch of posting going on inside!

Fast Foward
Recently, I was sent a "tip" on a story that Davesipaq.com had run. It was basicly linking to a review from another site. BUT, it was a frontpage NEWS post about a "rumored" product which seems to violate this part of the HP aggreement. ( Demonstrates good faith attempts to moderate and remove all un-announced HP product information, including postings made by participants in the website or forum within 48 hours of the posting )
With this out there, this website has decided it doesn’t need the HP relationship anymore or the "evangelist" program has relaxed a bit.

Solution
Not sure yet… Sent an email to the head of the HP "web evangelist program asking for clarification and to send me a copy of this agreement if the rules allow for posting "unreleased" info found by others. It’s been 4 days and no response, but I think she is out of town.
