Budget PDA – Palm Z22

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.I’m not sure that there is more a staple of mobility and gadgetry than the PDA. They can store contacts, to-do lists, appointments, and other basic data as well as play games, access the internet (more expensive models), cache websites with free software, serve as an electronic drink mixer (as far as ingredients go, at least), and about anything else software can be coded to accomplish. However, they also seem to be a dying breed. As smartphones combine all these features and make them interact with cellular service, having a standalone PDA has become less and less attractive. However, several companies are still churning out new models designed for either great power or low cost. On the Palm side, the recent model for the price-conscious gadgeteer is the Z22. Simplicity is the key here, but at only $99, those with a few dollars hanging around from holiday returns might do well to take a look. The 160×160 pixel screen surely won’t win any awards (PocketPCs are standard 320×240 and a bit more expensive Palms are 320×320), but the Z22 does come with all standard personal information management programs as well as a photo viewer, a rechargeable battery (gone is the stigma of using AA batteries on cheaper PDAs), and a respectable 200mhz processor, and a decent 32mb of storage, with 20mb left to the user. These aren’t exactly powerhouse specs, but at this price, someone who wants an affordable, color organizer to keep contacts and play a game or two could surely do a lot worse.
