packard-bell-vibe-500.jpgOne of the first PCs we ever got when I was a kid was a Packard Bell, but I haven’t heard anything from them since.

Now Packard Bell has introduced the Vibe 500, but it appears as though it will only be available in Europe. The new multimedia player comes in 20 GB and 30 GB versions and supports video in MOV and AVI Motion JPEG formats, JPG JPEG and bitmap pictures, MP3 and Windows Media Audio. It claims digital camera support in its list of features, and it can be directly connected to a digital camera to transfer images.

The controls for the unit were designed by Synaptics, of laptop touch pad fame. The technology is called LightTouch and it (from Synaptics website) "combines scrolling functionality with media controls for Menu, play/pause, fast forward and rewind. The media controls are illuminated with white LEDs, creating an elegant visual effect. The entire Synaptics solution is integrated beneath the Vibe 500 case, resulting in a streamlined, sleek design."
