I am not sure exactly how, but I assume its from the cheesy "Can you here me now" commercials or maybe the push to advertise "in calling". Cingular has "in calling" too, for some odd reason they don’t advertise it as much.
What shocks me is that Cingular and Verizon both kicked ass. I have always thought that Cingular was a tad too conservative in its phone offerings and Verizon’s service just seems too "nickle and dimey".
"The nation’s two biggest wireless phone carriers Tuesday said they notched stronger-than-expected subscriber growth last quarter, but Wall Street expects the industry to add fewer customers this year. Cingular, owned by AT&T and BellSouth, added 1.8 million net customers. Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and U.K.-based Vodafone, added 2 million subscribers. Those were record sums for both, up 5.9% and 20.5%, respectively, from Q4 2004."
Thanks to Mike over at Smartphone Thoughts for running this bit. It was shocking to me and him it seems.
On a positive note for Cingular, they are getting better with phones. 2006 will have to be their year to get their act together with the converged device game.
