Mossberg Pans Treo 700w

Palm Treo 700wThe Great An Powerful Walt Mossberg has seen, touched and felt the new Palm Treo 700w — and, his verdict? Well, he’s not thrilled.

"My verdict: Despite some nice new features, the Windows Mobile software is still inferior to the Palm software for one-handed use on the go. Its crucial email and phone functions are also weaker. And there’s a serious bug in its email software that affects individuals, though not corporate users. So the Treo 700w is neither as easy to use nor as powerful as the Treo 650. In addition, the screen on the 700w offers significantly lower resolution than the screen on the 650, and the new model costs twice as much — $400 versus $200."

Personally, one-handed use if my litmus test for a smart phone and I’m glad to see Mossberg step-out and cite this as a major decision point in his review.

Is this a verdict on Windows Mobile in general or just this implementation? Will Mossberg’s review be enough to convince corporate IT departments to embrace the Palm OS Treo 650? Will EV-DO be enough to sway users to grin and bear the other issues that the 700w brings to the table?
