3D_Labs.jpgAccording to a press release from Creative earlier today, their subsidiary company 3Dlabs is about to undergo a fairly major refocus.  They will be steering more away from their current business model that is focused on professional graphics products, and instead begin moving into graphics products for portable handheld devices.

The Creative press release did not mention many details about the future plans for 3Dlabs in the handheld market, but it sounds to me like this might be a good thing for consumers.  With a fairly big player like 3Dlabs planning to focus on handheld graphics, I can only assume that it will really push the envelope for continuous improvement from other companies’ handheld graphics products such as ATI Technologies.

I am definitely interested in hearing some of the plans that 3Dlabs has for their initial entry into the handheld market.  Assuming that this has been a well-planned venture, I just wonder which handheld manufacturers 3Dlabs has been in talks with.
