Celio RedFly in Action
November 7, 2009 – 9:36 pm | Comments

A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Day Four with the Palm Treo 650

I am sicker than a dog. I went to work today, but I might as well stayed home. I normally go to bed about now each day (2am), but today I went to bed at 9pm. I woke up a while ago and couldn’t go back to sleep, so I figured I would post a few and then go back.

Games and ZLauncher!
All I did was played games and configure ZLauncher. This launcher is very nice, has lot’s of bells and whistles, but it requires a Masters Degree in tweaking to set up. No, the basic setup was easy, but there are so many options and I spent more than an hour trial and erring this app. It’s much nicer than that

I finished the Astraware Insaniquarium quest now. This game is not recommended for people that have addictive personalities like me.

More Quirks
I have found some aftermarket cradles, but why does a nice device like this NOT come with a cradle? That’s all I will say, this needs a cradle.

SD Card extends about a penny’s width from the top of the unit. No biggie, just something to complain about. LOL

It seems to me that the Palm OS is more about tinkering than anything. There is a TON of software out there for these to do almost anything you want, but it doesn’t seem to do much out of the box.

Did I mention the camera and phone are great? I will post some pictures I took over the last couple days in Day Five.

  • Only one reset? Wow, you must be lucky.

Does your Treo have the "constantly going into power-saving mode" problem? Like, launch the Camera app, and then wait 10-15 seconds ... does it turn the screen off on you?

I have mine set to 3 minutes in Preferences, yet so often it turns the screen off in less than 10 seconds. This causes some apps to freak out if it happens mid-action and reset.

    Hope you feel better Chris!
  • Dossy, I've only had 1 phantom reset. It's been pretty stable.

Patrick, oh boy... me too. I feel like I am inhaling marbles and there is a girl scout campfire inside my chest.
  • Chris, give us an idea how many times a day your Treo's soft-resetting on you. Considering it's a new Treo, it might not be happening that much, but that's the biggest problem with PalmOS-based stuff, the lack of protection at the OS level ... even the smallest bug causes an involuntary reset.
  • These review pieces on the 650 are great. I'm a long-time Pocket PC user, but also a 650 owner for nearly a year now. Love the form factor and one-handededness - but find some of the same quirks you've been commenting on annoying. And the lack of multi-tasking is a real big weakness. I've been trialing the Cingular 8125 and think I may trade in the 650 for it. Oh, and hope your plague passes quickly ...
