Day Two with the Palm Treo 650

Day Two is not too exciting guys.

I spent most of the day on the phone talking on it. It’s a great phone inside the city. One of the things I learned about it today was moving around inside the phone dialer. I had troubles trying to find a call history, but ended up making a button under the dialer for it. Then I moved the button up into one of the visible areas. The buttons on the nice keyboard are not real easy to dial with. Most of my calls today were in my contact list, but I used my fingers on the touch screen to make the calls that weren’t.

The applications run fast on this phone and most of the programs I have tried so far are so small in size compared to some Pocket PC apps. I do miss my "Today Screen" though. I am looking for a replacement home screen now.

I want to thank those that commented, emailed, and made suggestions based on my Day One posting. I also want to thank Alison at Astraware, she saw my test and offered to make my experience enjoyable by letting me try a couple of their games for the Palm OS! The device came preloaded with a full version of a fun little shooter ( Zap! 2106) that reminds me of one of my old favorites called 1942. Thanks to Alison, I am now trying out Insaniquarium and Ultimate Bowling Fighter. The both run great and I HIGHLY recommend Insaniquarium, I played this on the PPC as well and it is very addicting.

I had a busy day, so I didn’t have a chance to check out much more. With the help of a co-worker, I discovered that the camera was not too bad either. If you know me already, you know I could care less about a camera in a phone, but my co-worker wanted to check it out.

Pocket PC Fans, I am still a Microsoft Mobile Device MVP and always a fanboy, but I now understand why the Palm faithful love the Treo 650. It’s a nice device.

I've been following your entries for the treo and thought you would like to look at my page http://www.themarketbuzz.com/treo_650.html to get some idea of what programs really make this phone stand out. I still need to add a whole section on using the TCPMP movie player and related software, and the new extension to pTunes that lets you stream music from the web. This really is a handheld computer in many ways that can be extended to do many things a computer can do. Plus with some news about going to Linux and the new Treo 700W that uses the Windows Mobile software you have a form factor that now will be spread across many programming platforms. Hope this give you some ideas on what to include in your testing.
  • For a Today replacement, I would have to recommend 2day from ShSh software.

You can get to the Call Log by pressing the Phone/Send button and selecting Call Log from the recent calls list.
