A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

PSPHacked.jpgThe PSP since it has come out has been a major platform for hackers to have fun with. While many of the things they do are not hurting Sony or dealing with illegal copies of things (many of the "homebrew" PSP programs are for things like home made games (pong, tetris, and other simple games), applications (calander, stop watch), and other things), Sony still does not like it when people are playing around with their system and doing whatever they like. Also, in earlier firmware versions on the PSP that have been hacked, very illegal things like putting full retail games from the internet on your PSP have also come up and this is not only bugging Sony and the Game Developers, but it is also breaking the law.

Sony then fired back with newer firmware releases that are required to play the newer UMD retail games you buy in stores. These newer firmware releases have not been hacked for a few months now, but……..

This past week, the newer firmware releases have now all been hacked! They are not as fully hacked as the earlier versions (still many homebrew programs do not work on the newer firmware…including running illegal retail games on the PSP), but they are hacked and you can use some of the homebrew apps on all the PSP firmware versions now.

Rumours have it that Sony has another firmware release complete and they were waiting for the newest public firmware (2.6) to be hacked before they released it to the public. Should be interesting in the coming weeks to see if Sony responds with a new firmware release.

I personally do not care much for illegal hacking and playing illegal games, but it is a thing that happens with every new age game console to date (even the xbox 360 is already being hacked!). In a way I wish there was a way for the people that have the time/knowledge to make the homebrew apps that do not effect the Games/Game Developers/Sony to be able to make little software applications for the PSP, some of them do look neat and do not seem like they would cause any harm to sony or any big businesses (like the Calculator and Calander apps for example!)

NOTE: I in no way am telling you how to hack your PSP and it is illegal. I am simply telling you the new news that the newer PSP firmwares have been hacked. I do not need to tell you where to find these homebrew apps/hacks as they are plenty easy to find.

This doesnt mean your going to see any homebrew for 2.6 anytime soon. 2.0 has been cracked for a while yet theres lilterally nothing for it.
