OK, I’ve now had and used this device for a few days and I have formed some likes and dislikes.
Likes:
Super nice form factor, both size and feel are great.
Superior phone performance. This phone has the best reception of any phone I have used in the last 2 years. I have poor reception at my home with Cingular. It comes and goes with the wind. Some devices have are more consistant than others. The best device prior to this N70 was the Cingular 8125. My wifes plain jane Motorola cell phone does not even get reception as good as this Nokia N70.
Great Camera. I don’t particularly care for cameras on a phone, I just don’t really use them. Even though I don’t care for a camera, there are those that do and to those people, this camera is great. I shot a 30 second clip of my son dancing like a complete basket case Saturday and it was surprisingly clear and had no choppiness at all.
Dislikes:
The UI. I tried, but I just could not get the hang of using only the navigation controls to move around to do things on this. Also, the navigation button gave my fat fingers trouble on the down strokes. (kept hitting the number 2)
The software to sync the unit was ok, but I didn’t give it much chance. It was real foreign to me as a Windows Mobile guy.
Over all this is a great phone, but I personally don’t see it as a "PDA". The functionality is there for contacts, browsing, email, etc… but the UI is not what I would like to use everyday. If you want a phone with great reception, a great camera, and don’t care as much for PDA side of the house, this is a great phone for you. If you want a PDA with a built in phone, I can’t suggest this.
Next up will be Gray Rentz, he will be getting this unit and will do some more testing for your enjoyment!
