Because my four dogs are very near and dear to me, I totally understand the reasoning behind two new products for keeping track of your pooch. The first product called Petscell from PetsMobility is actually a small waterproof cell phone for your dog to wear on his collar. It is GPS enabled so you can track him down if he wanders away and the phone is a speaker phone with an auto answer feature when you call from preapproved numbers. It also features an owner call button; in case anyone finds your lost dog they can push the button to dial you directly.
Another new device for tracking your dog is the Global Pet Finder GPS that also attaches to the dog’s collar (I guess that is the only place they can carry things, not having pockets). The unit tranmits trackable GPS coordinates that the owner can view on the company’s website. The owner can even define a "safe zone" for their pet and if the animal leaves the area, they will be notified by Cell phone.
These of the two devices, only the Global Pet Finder has a price listed and it is a pretty high price at $349 plus a monthly subscription fee for the service. I can only imagine that the Petscell will be similarly priced. Still, with the increasing role pets are taking in families, I can see people forking over the cash for something like this. I know I would do anything for my pets.
