WM5 Upgrade For HP iPAQ hx4700 Delayed ANOTHER Month

HP has delayed the release of the long awaited Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for it’s flagship hx4700 series Pocket PCs yet again. Their web site now lists the upgrade availability as April 1, 2006 — let’s hope that isn’t an April’s Fools gag on their part.
Owners of the hx 4700 have been waiting somewhat patiently for more than six-months for this promised upgrade. While the hx4700 series is still considered top-of-the-line hardware, mostly due to it’s VGA capable screen, HP has even gone so far as to remove the hx4700 series from its current product offerings; most likely due to its current lack of Windows Mobile 5.0 OS.
I for one have been holding on to hope that this upgrade will materialize. Rather than rush out and buy a new WM5 device like I would have usually done in the past, I decided to hold my gear lust in check and wait. This is mostly because I really like my hx4700 and I bought a really swanky NSIGNIA Sting Ray case — increasing my investment in that particular unit even more. (This case is DA BOMB by the way!)
But, after this long dry spell without the new OS to give me all the bells and whistles I crave in my Pocket PC, I am feeling a little left out in the cold by HP over this whole thing, as I think many other hx4700 series fans are feeling as well. So, while I find a little consolation in the smooth pebble-like surface of my hx4700’s case, I really want WM5 memory management and all the wonderfulness that the upgrade is giving those that jumped over to the new OS months ago.
You hear me HP?
I’M WAITING, AND SO ARE MANY OTHERS!
Now, back to the news…
