Are You Using Your Phone for Dirty Deeds?

The researchers worked with Google to look at a million search queries made through Google Mobile in one month of 2005. Apparently 20% of all mobile phone searches from this sample were for pornographic content. To put it in perspective, regular PC searches average only around 10% for pornography now. Also in this study, it was shown that only 5% of PDA searches were for pornography.
So why the increase in porn on cell phones? I’ll agree with ArsTechnica’s point, in that a large portion of the mobile phone users today are hormone-crazed teenagers…. and don’t forget the lonely travelling businessman. Parents (and wives) often try to keep tabs on what gets looked at on the Internet at home, but I’m sure very few happen to look at the browser history on their teenager’s cell phone. I’m sure this trend will eventually turn the way of PC porn with more restrictions placed on easy and free access to the content, driving down the number of underage phone owners surfing that type of content. But who knows… It could just as easily keep growing and growing with the wide push for mobile multimedia content now, and result in the mobile phone being the best thing for the porn industry since VHS came out.
