In a company press release earlier today, Palm announced that more than 200 VIP attendees of this week’s World Health Care Congress will have the opportunity to interactively participate in the conference using a Treo 700w. The devices will be running VisionTree Conference Platform, allowing the users to get a feel for the type of collaboration that is possible with today’s mobile devices.
"The smartphones, which run on the Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R) 5.0 operating system, will provide the healthcare leaders with the technology to obtain collective input on strategic initiatives presented at the conference. Panelists will gain feedback from the audience through custom surveys and free-text input, and collaborate in real time while gathering relevant data. The data collected will then be available to present to the audience in graphs and charts for analysis and discussion." –Palm, Inc.
I personally think this is a great idea for both Palm, Inc. and VisionTree Software, Inc. One of the leading industries for technology innovation is health care, so this is a prime event for a company to show its products to some of the biggest names in the industry. It appears that Palm and VisionTree aimed this at showing ways their products can be used for instant data gathering and knowledge-sharing among a diverse group of people, with the ability to also process data into effective result sets. Since collaboration plays a major role in health care, I would expect both companies to see a notable sales increase in this industry as long as everything goes well at the World Congress this week.
