Apple iPod Hi-Fi iPod dock

Do you fancy Really listening to your music, then the Apple Hi-Fi iPod dock is for you. It has the styling of a retro ghetto blaster, and it is supplied with 10 dock adaptors to fit any one of the iPod models.

Feed it a dose of hard electro-rock like Murderous by Nitzer Ebb and it puts plenty of bass in your face. It’s also able to play nicely, however, preserving much of the acoustic subtlety of Fairport Convention’s Matty Groves.

The horrible, slab-like, "speaker-fallen-over" design, however and the oh-so-stylish white plastic now seems tired, while sitting the minimalist iPod in such a huge contraption just seems wrong, aesthetically. Although it can run from six D-type batteries as well as mains, its bulk makes lugging it about an unalluring prospect.

Thanks to a plethora of adaptors, all iPod models are compatible, even the shuffle. A small remote control lets you change the volume, and skip forward and back through your tracks, although with no screen, you can’t use it to control those all-important playlists.

In time-honoured Apple tradition, the price seems a little high for what you’re getting. However, sound quality is undeniably impressive, and that’s the most important thing.

The Apple Hi-Fi can be found here.
