Jack -
The Avvenu system is designed to be a secure, scalable system which can support millions of simultaneous users accessing remote machines from any internet-connected device. All of the components of the Avvenu system use standardized networking and computing components and can be rapidly scaled.

When a user wants to remotely access their computer, they access the Avvenu Gateway over an HTTPS (SSL) secure connection. The SSL (Secure Socket Layers) system is the most widely used system for the secure transmission of content between two computers, and is designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery. The version of SSL used by Avvenu is known as 128-bit SSL, which is the standard for high-value transmissions such as online banking transactions. Each time a connection is initiated between a device and the Avvenu Gateway, the two sides of the transaction go through a handshaking process that creates a unique cryptographic "key" that the two sides use to encrypt and decrypt the data. This key is 128 bits in length.

I have a couple of friends that use the free service and have expressed that they are very happy with it.

Security is a concern all people have but avvenu indicates that they use the same encryption that would be found on a bank site...I would expect it to be very secure.

From their site:
"With Avvenu, you're in complete control of safe, password-protected access to your computer. You control who gets access, to which folders or files and for how long. Your guests see exactly what you have shared and nothing else. Your data is protected with the same encryption standards as online banking transactions."

Hmmm.. I must be very out of touch. The name doesn't ring a bell.

I wonder how secure it is. Time for some research!
