There is a furniture/appliance dealer in our town who has achieved a real cult following with his ads. One of his best is a slogan that says "Free Is A Very Good Price". Getting something for nothing is good, depending on what it is. One of the best software programs that I have found that you can use for free is Google Earth. This is a program that combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search Engine to put the world’s geographic information at your fingertips. Want to see what your neighbor’s backyard looks like? Just enter his address. Check out the beaches of Hawaii, California, and Australia. Want to visit the Vatican from your own armchair? You can do it all with Google Earth.
They have just released the beta version of Google Earth 4 on June 12th. There are some impressive new features with this new version. An improved user interface, textured 3D buildings, and the ability to build your own structures using Google Sketchup make this an upgrade to consider. There is a professional version of the program available, but the free one is very adequate for day to day use.
