Yet another MP3 player on the market, this time it is backed by amazon …

The Music Gremlin wireless music player and service is now live, available for sale via Amazon.com and the company`s own Web site. Music Gremlin is a portable MP3 player that connects directly to it`s own online music store via public WiFi Internet connections. No PC connection is needed.

The service offers unlimited, on-demand music and commercial-free programming on a monthly subscription payment model. Users also can buy individual tracks or full albums on an ala carte basis. MusicNet is powering the music store .

The subscription service costs $15 a month, with individual tracks at 99 cents each. The Music Gremlin player retails for $300, and comes with an 8 GB hard drive, headphones, power charger and USB cable.

From the web site:

As the only computer-free download technology of its kind, MusicGremlin allows consumers to access a virtually endless supply of content from the palm of their hands—and play it back in seconds. MusicGremlin blends the best of both worlds—the power of a PC and the mobility and convenience of a portable device—to enable a true “record store in your pocket.”

Rather than being tethered to a PC to browse and search new music, obtain new content, or refresh your music collection, MusicGremlin gives you the freedom to enjoy a complete music experience directly from your favorite listening and playback device. From wireless portable devices to digitized home stereos to other future devices, MusicGremlin delivers the power of digital music to you—anytime, anywhere.

MusicGremlin provides embedded software and technology that is bringing the world the next generation in digital audio, making digital music more convenient, simple and fun to use than ever before. By partnering with the world’s leading consumer electronics makers and content providers, MusicGremlin enables fast wireless delivery of digital music content and services directly to CE devices of all kinds—including Wi-Fi-enabled portable digital audio players, a new breed of IP-based digital home and car entertainment devices, and other Internet-connected devices.

By supporting a variety of operating platforms, MusicGremlin can integrate its technology into existing products as well as new and planned product introductions. Seamlessly. Securely. Without a PC.
