I am a bit of a fiend when it comes to cataloguing my possessions, music, films and books are at the top of this list. I came across a solution for my book collection a while ago called librarything. The good news now is the site has a mobile version.
I like the idea of being able to check if I have a book using my mobile phone at any time. The mobile web version allow you to search by title, author, tag or ISBN 

You can create a list of 200 books free of charge, anything more requires a nominal yearly fee.

The site interrogates Amazon and a few other online book stores, to pull down the cover art , and all the other useful information like author ISBN, so creating a list is pretty easy. The site is still in beta but already delivers a full service with over 40.000 users.
