If you ever get the urge to run over your MP3 player then the new Monolith player is for you…  They reckons that this  MP3 player is so beefy it can actually withstand being run over by a car. Amazingly, it isn’t exaggerating.

A test was made using a Citroen AX, The player was set in motion and then the car put in gear and rolled right over the device. The only evidence it had just been mown down was a small dent in its armour, pretty cool.

Top marks for durability and for once this is a device with a good interface, and with a decent array of buttons making it relatively easy to find your way around the straightforward menus.

The 2GB Flash memory can store 500 or so tracks and battery life is better than the average at about 17 hours. The audio quality is excellent too. As you’d expect from such a tough player, there’s plenty of bass,

There are plenty of extras, including an onboard FM tuner and a built-in MP3 encoder that lets you record from both the radio and an external source. That could be a Godsend if, for instance, you’re looking to turn parts of your old vinyl collection into MP3.

This player is a tad pricier than the iPod nano, and it’s not as easy to use. However, its sound quality compares well, and boy is it solid. If that’s important to you, check this out. Wiry, smart and tough, it’s the Amir Khan of jukeboxes.
