Hi Bia

No, I don't miss Wi-Fi although I thought I would. I was very pleased with the Sprint Network while I had the 700P although it was a problem when I drove out of their coverage area. I always had phone service (the best I have ever experienced) but web access is non-existant when you leave the coverage area.

So what did I do if I wanted to connect with WiFi when I was out of their area...I used one of my Wi-Fi devices. But I need to pont out that in three weeks, I found I had the need to do that only once so I guess I am slowly migrating away from using WiFi with my mobile devices. I am really liking access to the web via my provider.

I appreciate your comments kgrypon. Your points are taken.

I would point out that the article has as part of its title "A First Impression". This was my first experience with the Palm OS do there was a lot for me to experiment with as a "first time user".

I did mention just after "What is Under the Hood? that the device came with "128 MB of memory (60 MG available) and an Intel XScale 312MHz processor" so folks would know the speed we were dealing with and I did mention that from my initial experiences that "there is an appearance that there is plenty of power".

I chose not to install additional software so how the device would perform beyond the pre-installed applications is not something that I could comment on. However, based upon my experience, I would doubt that there would be difficulties. I did mention in my article why I chose not to install additional software.

Clearly, since I chose not to install anything that would reside on my PC, the ability to sync is not something that I could comment on. I did however indicate that because of my experience that I felt it would work well. In the reading I did on Palm specific sites, it did not appear to be an issue....have you ever heard of anyone having sync issues?

I did take the 700P and 700W and have done some side by side comparisons on loading some heavy graphic websites. There was a huge difference between the two...the 700P performing significantly better. Memory is an issue with the 700W in that respect but not so from my experience with the 700P.

I do not take advantage of push email because of my particular situation. however, I get somewhere between 100-150 emails a day and with the settings I use, retrieving email was not an issue with me. As you know, Push email gives you that "always-on" capability. For my particular circumstances, "Pull" has been working perfectly for me.

So, I hope this at least addresses some of your concerns. Thanks for the comments!

I recently upgraded from an iPaq hx2755 to the Palm Treo 700p. The only things that I miss (and I miss this from my T|T3 too!) are the Today Screen (and associated application updates that you can install and really slow down Windows Moble 2003 with) and the extra screen real estate. Having a 320x320 doesn't compare to 480x320 with rotation capabiltiy.

Jack I am really baffled with this review. I was looking forward to this since you spoke about it on the Mobility Guys podcast.

Why nothing on processor speeds, exchange email push along with synchronizing contacts? This is what I wanted to hear about honestly. To me this doesnt help when I do my podcast on MT.

Sorry for posting this here but I thought you could elaborate on these issues.

Thank you for your work.
