I remember when portable computers first hit the market. They weren’t called laptops then because you would need a lap as big as Paul Bunyan’s to hold one. But as technology advanced, they became smaller and smaller. The smaller they became, the more powerful they seemed to become as well. That trend has continued until, well, now. Those good ol’ days of large luggable portable computers are back, but this time with a purpose.

The reason for the increase in the size of the devices is simple. The screen technology has improved so drastically that the new breed of laptops now support 19- and 20-inch screens. The main market focus, according to PC Magazine, is for the student who may be limited in the amount of living space. Here they have computers that are portable, yet can double as a TV/DVD combo, plus they can be folded up and put away when not in use.

Each of these new computers have some excellent qualities, as well as some downsides. The entire article can be viewed here.
