Upgrading the Motorola Q

closeThis post was published 3 years 2 months 30 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

I have gone ahead and upgrade my Moto Q to the recent upgrade. The following is what some of the features it enabled. Read on for a step by step screen shot of my Upgrade Process.

The MOTO Q software update is focused on enabling enhanced enterprise functionality and expanded connectivity.

  • The enhanced enterprise functionality is centered on the Windows Mobile Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP). MSFP, together with Microsoft Exchange 2003 (SP2), includes Direct Push Technology, global address book lookup and enhanced mobile device management and security, including the ability to remotely wipe data from devices and options for stronger encryption of data.
  • MOTO Q connectivity is expanded with the addition of Dial-up Networking (DUN) capabilities.  Users can have broadband-like EVDO download speeds on their laptop by using their MOTO Q as a wireless modem via USB or Bluetooth for an additional fee. For information on how to setup DUN users can visit www.motoqwiki.com.
  • The software update also enables improved browser navigation as well as other improvements.

Download the software to upgrade, install it on your PC and run it…

Expect this to take about 15-20 minutes to accomplish.
It took about 5-10 seconds to read the info from my device when I first started the application to upgrade.

Make sure it’s charged enough, I had to give it some juice to get going with the upgrade. The application will close until ready to try again. Restart the application if this happens.

At this point, the Q will blank out and pop the below info on the screen. Then a driver will be installed. Mine hung on this driver install and I had to take a risk and remove the battery in hopes of starting over, it worked and I was on my way again.

During this portion, it will go through a series iof messages as seen below. The last one will make you wonder if anything is happening, be patient, it will get done. :)

After the install is complete, the Q will be restarted and will run as peppy as can be!
