Best Buy Takes on iPod

It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

Best Buy has its own private label Digital Audio Player (DAP), the Insignia NS-DVxG, that features a 2.2" screen, Bluetooth, and a microSD slot. Supplying this DAP is Korean manufacturer Joytoto. It plays WMV files, MP3, Ogg, JPEG and MPEG-4.

Best Buy has partnered with Rhapsody and Napster for content download, as well as games, to compete with Apple’s services. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but should be available by the end of October. Additionally, no word on capacities either. The advantage Best Buy has for itself is it’s distribution network and sales force, as well as its heavy advertising. If the product is half decent and is priced right, and it puts a huge marketing effort behind it, it may take a small chunk out of the massive iPod pie. But that’s alot of ifs, and the Microsoft Zune is right around the corner.
