Sony Noise-Cancelling Earphones

Sony claims their new MDR-NC22(JE) noise-cancelling earphones reduce ambient noise by 75%, while the headphones themselves are 39% smaller than their predecessors. This package is powered by a AAA battery that should last 50 hours. Compared to the $300 Bose Quiet Comfort series, these are a bargain.

Ear bud headphones by nature will reduce noise, and by sensing outside sound with built-in microphones and sending an equal but opposite canceling signal to the headphones they reduce even more sound.

The previous version was the MDR-NC10 that sold for about $70US. This new version is currently rolling out only in Japan at this time. No news on whether or when it will come to the US.

People buy the Bose for the name and prestige and because they feel that for $300 they’ll get the greatest quality. Can these far less expensive headphones live up to that?
