A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

i-mate Kjam, the phone of all phones

In the past year, I have used some of the hottest Pocket PC Phones out there. In fact I have several of them within arms reach of me right now. Even though I purchased several of them, I keep going back to one phone, The i-mate Kjam. Why? It just does it for me. The processor is fast enough for what I do, it’s a superb form factor, and I am just used to it. The Kjam is made by HTC and has many brandings out there. HTC’s name for the phone is the Wizard. Cingular has a version called the Cingular 8125 (Review) and T-Mobile has the MDA.

I have the Treo 700w and 700wx, the Motorola Q, T-Mobile SDA, Samsung IP-830 (testing now), iPaq hw6515, and more I could use. So why keep going back to the year and half old Kjam. It’s a great device. Several other Microsoft MVPs I know also revert back to the Kjam too. This is not to discredit any of the other phones on the market.

My Kjam has had a wonderful life too! When it was brand new, my wife baptised it in the toilet for 20-30 seconds. After getting very upset, I let it dry, and 2 days later we have a working device! Over the next week or two, I had some minor incovience glitches, but they all cleared up soon after and it has worked flawlessly ever since.

No, I am not trying to sell you a Kjam. Only sharing my love for it. I am not recommending you buy one! Instead, you could do what I am going to do, purchase a Cingular 8525 or HTC TyTN. (or one of the other variants of the HTC Hermes) I used the 8525 for a week before passing it on to one of our reviewers recently. The 8525 is basicly an updated version of the 8125 (Kjam). One of the features it brings to the table is HSDPA, which is available a little bit up the road from me. The 3G ability and the upcoming Push to talk service of the Cingular 8525 will retire my Kjam.
