I admit it, as soon as they were available I raced to the Zune Marketplace and downloaded three of the new Zune HD games, very eager to see what Microsoft had chosen as the …

For nearly as long as mobile phones have been around there have been rumours/links/concerns about a possible link with various health scares. Small studies in different places showed conflicting results and up and till now the best that anyone has been able to say is "the Jury is still out".

Now a huge study of 420,095 Danish people who got their first phone between 1982 and 1995 states

"Conclusions: We found no evidence for an association between tumour risk and cellular telephone use among either short-term or long-term users."

If you want a copy of the report,  The Abstract of the study can be found here

At about the same time as this scare was dealt with, a new one appeared.. Wifi.
Several newspapers (such as The Times  and the Daily Mail ) reported that some schools were removing Wifi networks because of possible health risks amongst children and teachers.

Again, with no hard evidence it is hard to prove anything one way or the other. But it looks like there is less reason to suppose a problem with wifi than mobile phones.

The  BBC Website gave some further information

"In classrooms, a typical exposure is at 20 millionths of the guideline levels, whereas a mobile phone is 50% of guidelines," says Dr Michael Clark, science spokesman for the Health Protection Agency.
"Twenty minutes on a mobile phone call is equivalent to a year in that classroom. It’s a completely different level of exposure. These are non-ionising radio waves. They’re not X-rays, or gamma rays, or ultra violet. It’s completely different in energy terms. I’m looking outside now and that’s electromagnetic radiation – visible light. Radio energies are a million times less energetic than ultraviolet light."

But as people claim sensitivity to radio waves, he would welcome more research, given the rapid introduction of the new technology.

Well now that I know it isn’t  going to kill me, I can go back to looking for my perfect wifi smartphone
