I think it’s a STRETCH but …
This post was published 2 years 10 months 27 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.… evidently RIM believes it has a case in its suit over the “BLACK*****” name.
Interestingly enough when the BlackJack came out, not once, not even a fleeting thought, a slight murmur, a wisp in the air, did I ever in the slightest fashion equate the name BlackJack with BlackBerry.
Does RIM now believe that BLACK (insert any name here) is now forever theirs? Does that now mean that when I look out in the yard and see those Blackbirds I now will have to say “Absence of Color” Bird … give me a break!
The suit was filed last week in California with RIM trying to stop the sale of the new BlackJack phones. Their complaint is that they feel it is a name that ”constitutes false designation of origin, unfair competition and trademark dilution.”
The folks at RIM said that they believed that the name BlackJack might confuse some customers. Hmm … I don’t think so. Actually when I first heard the name, I thought about the weapon the police used to carry when I was a kid. It was a small leather club with a weight at the end that if used would inflict some serious damage. So to me, the name was a great choice because the device was going to inflict some serious damage in the market … meaning it was going to be a HUGE success. Well, from all the reports we are getting, it is HUGE!
Blackjacks were popular “back in the day” because of their low profile and small size, and their potential to inflict enormous damage on human beings. The BlackJack device is popular today because of its low profile and small size and its potential to “beat up” the current market.
It’s a good, no, it’s a great device with an appropriate name … RIM, get a life, improve your device and then the Berry won’t get crushed!
… just my thoughts!
