I am optimistic imagining anything Microsoft can do with the Zune, so this news has my ears perked. Of course, we all know how tipsters can be sometimes. We’re listening even if it’s not true!

"We’ve just received a sound tip that Microsoft is working on its very own phone to be branded under the Zune moniker. Our tipsters inform us that Microsoft execs are in meetings today hammering out details of the device and developing strategies and timescales for its release."

If Microsoft can step up to the plate with a solid offering that does much more than the current Zune, they could hit a double or a triple easily. Just think back when they jumped into the gaming world. Who would have thought that the Xbox could up end the Sony Playstation? Who thought that Pocket PC could get into Palm’s market of PDAs? Who knows.
