A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

In the next coming days, US carriers T-Mobile, AT&T, and later this year, Verizon and Sprint will begin to offer free upgrades from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6.  The main devices that have been slated to receive the upgrade as of April 2007 are the T-Mobile Dash, AT&T/Palm Treo 750, most of the HTC 2007 models (GSM), along with the 2007 I-mate models (GSM). But is it worth the hassle to let your Windows Mobile or cell phone provider send you through hoops to get it?  The benefits of the WM6 platform are well documented in the corporate office, but how about the home user? What benefits will you see to justify either a new purchase or an upgrade request? According to Doug Smith of Microsoft, here are the new features that are only available in WM6 that you can get in WM5 only with third party software;

1.       Able to edit word, excel, and PowerPoint documents (Smartphone)

2.       Windows live communication services built in

3.       Windows live search (maps) built in

4.       Able to read html e-mail

5.       Able to tag pictures and music for easier sorting

6.       Timeline agenda now integrated into calendar

7.       Easier initial setup of the device

8.       Better contact management

9.       Bluetooth tethering (able to use PDA as a modem for your laptop)

10.   Integrated call logs in the contact information

Is that worth the trouble? Who knows, but at least now you have the information that will help you in purchasing a new device, asking for an upgrade for what you already have, or staying put.
