A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Vodafone hates you (slightly) less than it did before..

VodafoneOne of the things that has bothered me about Vodafone is that it hates me.. Not me personally but anybody who wants to use a mobile device to send data that doesn’t involve ringtones or mobile TV.

Yes, I know they do have the gorgeous Treo, and the amazingly versatile N95 but without a data connection they do look a bit like  chocolate teapots.. and at £2.53 per mb (no bundles available) incredibly expensive too.

Now Vodafone have launched their new data tariff.. and it seems they now hate us less.

Here’s the good news..
You can stream video and music
you can browse the web
check email
can connect your laptop

and here’s the catches
Understandably VOIP isn’t allowed..
Instant messaging is not included in the deal.. that’s still charged at the £2 per mb.. plus a 5p charge for each data session!!!

And if you go over the 15mb per day.. it’s back to £2 per MB.

Under the new tariff £1  will get you up to 15MB of data a day.. once you get past that you’ll be stung for another £2 per megabyte..

There will an option to add a bundle to your monthly contract.. but as yet they haven’t released the details of that.

It’s a step in the right direction I suppose. The deal is better than O2, but still not as good as Orange PAYG, Three and T-Mobile. Now Vodafone will just be expensive for mobile data users.. as opposed to mindblowingly stupidly expensive.

If you want a mobile data deal.. you should still be looking at Web’n'walk from T-mobile
