It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

This past week UIQ Technology came to Boston for two days to meet with local developers to discuss their platform and opportunities that are available for creating software.  I attended this two day event, met with the folks from UIQ, Motorola and Sony Ericsson as well as a raft of developers.  I will tell you that some of what I saw was very exciting and not only from the phone manufacturers.  The software that was being developed by these young, creative and energetic developers that were in attendance was extraordinary.  I am looking forward to testing some of the software I saw.

What is UIQ?  It is an open software platform that runs “on top of” Symbian OS.  Their goal is to create user-friendly, diverse and cost-efficient mobile phones. They believe that it is possible to create a diversified portfolio of phones, each one for a different user segment, all based on a single codeline.

From what I could see in several sessions I attended, they are achieving their goal.  Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BenQ and Arima are all using this platform successfully.  This week I have posted several videos from the event.  The clip below features two brief interviews.  The first interview is with Elisabet Melin, the UIQ VP of Marketing and the second is with Johan Sandberg, UIQ’s CEO.

I have to apologize for the background noise with Johan Sandberg in advance.  I am testing a NEW HDMI camera and some of the features I am not used to yet … (I pressed the wrong Noise reduction feature).

You can visit UIQ Technology here
