Top 10 of whatevers – What should we have?

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. When you think of what Mobile computing is, and then what it could be, there’s a bit of a short fall at the moment. I’m not asking for brain implants, or any cyberpunk nanotech… But there’s so much that we could have, if only they’d do it for us…
10) A Web 2.0 compliant browser.. with dynamic zooming.. and web apps.
9) Scratch proof screens… You’d have thought by now that touch screen devices that tend to get put in bags, rucksacks and pockets, would have scratch proof screens. But no. A screen protector is virtually a universal, compulsory optional extra. Unless of course Apple have invented some magic screen with built in pixy dust.
8) A cheap, flexible, low performance laptop like an EEEPC..
7) Not another flash memory card ![]()
and following on from the previous post, I want a 5 year ban on new flash memory formats. Other people would say that all we really need is SD and CF and that would be fine. We don’t really need MiniSD, MicroSD, MiniSDHC, MicroSDHC, Memory stick, Memory stick Duo, MemoryStick Micro, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Pro Micro , Memory Stick Pro Duo, Mini MMC, Transflash. XD, RS-MMC, miCard, and Smart Media, so why do we need any more?
6) Universal Connectors
I know Radimus is hot on this one, but every mobile device seems to invent its own connector. We should follow the example of China and declare mini-USB the standard. Or at least come up with a reason why we need to carry 5 chargers. And while we’re on the subject why is everyone now inventing new headphone sockets. Nokia, Sony, HTC, Motorola. It’s a hand free kit with a microphone. And they’re not even compatible within the same manufacturer
5) Windows Mobile MMORPG
or any MMO type game. We have all these windows mobile wifi/smartphone/3G devices and we just play games by ourselves, why is that?
4) Living in the cloud.
The Digital cloud has been an idea that’s been floated by a lot of people, Sony, Microsoft, Google. But nobody has really done it yet. The idea is that instead of storing your information on 5 different hard drives and phones and synchronizing it all, that your information all lives somewhere on the internet, and each device connects to it directly and is thus always up to date. And a nice set of open source protocols means that any new device can talk to it as well.
3) More Power
I want more power… I want a power source that will give me a couple of weeks worth of run/talk time and a month of standby, and it can charge in 5 mins then that would be great. Exotic battery technologies such as fuel cells have been talked about for some time, but they never seem to get any nearer.
2) Voice recognition.
I liked voice command when I had my mda-compact.. it doesn’t seem to work so well on my Vario II, but I could voice dial my address book, windows media player and calendar without any of that tedious voice-tag recording. But what I really want is to be able to dictate into word, or make appointments directly. and only use the keyboard/stylus when I was in stealth mode
1) Startrek Communicator
Yes, I know that normally everyone who picks something from Star-Trek goes for the tri-corder. But the tuck badge communicator thingy is what I want. With a range of miles, voice activated dialing, seemingly infinite battery life and built in language translation, beats my Bluetooth headset any day.
