light So how many different memory cards do you have?  If you’re like me, at least one of each type and it grows and grows and grows.  Apparently, it is going to continue to grow but possibly with the end result that there will be one unified memory card for electronic devices by 2009.

Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and three other technology companies have announced that they will join forces to create this new unified format to stop the craziness.  According to Pocket-lint.co.uk  there are companies signing up to the idea like Spansion Inc., STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments.

Announced earlier today, the new specification, dubbed Universal Flash Storage (UFS) will "reflect the industry’s need for a universal memory solution that removes the need for adaptors to accommodate different removable memory card sizes".

The companies also hope that working together will help improve speed and performance enabling high-speed access to large multimedia files, while reducing power-consumption in consumer electronic devices.

Now if we could only get them all to agree on using one type of charger….
