New ScanSnap S300 Mobile Scanning Solution Enables Anytime, Anywhere Scanning for Mobile Professionals and Home Users

Fujitsu introduced today the Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 mobile scanning solution, the world’s smallest color, duplex automatic document feeder (ADF) scanner. With an ultra-compact footprint measuring a mere 11.2″ x 3.7″ x 3.0″ and weighing less than 3.1 lbs, the ScanSnap S300 scanner is small enough to fit in a briefcase or laptop bag, making it a great solution for the mobile business professional, and, with its advanced scanning functionality, also powerful enough to sit comfortably beside them in their office/home office when not on the go.

The new ScanSnap S300 mobile scanning solution offers the fastest
“one-touch” conversion of paper documents into searchable Adobe(R) portable document format (PDF) files available today in the mobile scanning
industry. Users simply load a stack of up to 10 documents into the ADF and
press the “SCAN” button to produce searchable PDF files at speeds of up to
8 pages per minute (ppm) for single-sided documents and 16 images per
minute (ipm) for double-sided documents. The ScanSnap S300 scanner can also be powered from a USB connection (USB 2.0/USB 1.1) on any PC, allowing road warriors to scan paper documents, receipts, bills, invoices and business cards anywhere they go.

Here are a few other unique scanning features and software bundles included with the ScanSnap S300 scanner:

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager V4.2 — Provides a simple user interface that allows users to change settings for selecting applications, creating searchable PDF files, activating intelligent settings, choosing paper sizes, and modifying image compression output.
  • Fast Scanning Speeds — At 8 ppm (simplex) and 16 ipm (duplex), the ScanSnap S300 scanner provides excellent color batch scanning performance. If A/C power is unavailable, the ScanSnap S300 scanner can be connected to a second actively powered USB port on any PC and  provide color batch scanning speeds of up to 4 ppm (simplex) and 8 ipm (duplex).
  • Business Card Scanning — CardMinder(TM) V3.2 transforms business cards into editable information and can import contacts from external databases, export contacts to other contact managers such as Microsoft Outlook, and even synchronize them.
  • Fujitsu ScanSnap Organizer V3.2 — Provides advanced viewing and control of scanned content, including large thumbnails consisting of all the pages scanned within the batch.
  • Double-Sided Color Scanning — Faithfully reproduces both sides of a document in a single pass.
  • Automatic Color Detection — Multi-page documents containing color, black and white, text and graphic information on both sides are processed with the touch of a button.
  • Automatic Blank-Page Detection and Deletion — Capability to sense whether a page is blank and eliminate it from the scan if the user so desires.
  • Automatic Page Orientation — Allows the user to set the scanner to detect for automatic page orientation for proper viewing.
  • Automatic Image Deskew — Automatically senses when images are misaligned (skewed) and corrects the alignment automatically before presenting the final image to the user.
  • Automatic Paper-Size Detection — Automatically gauges the documents page size and crops the edges accordingly. The ScanSnap S300 senses up to 9 different paper sizes from business cards to legal length and can also be configured to support “custom” paper sizes as specified by the user.
  • Dual 600dpi Optical Resolution — Offers dual 600dpi optical resolution ensuring the highest image quality possible in a compact, mobile device. Users have their choice of setting scanning modes of Normal (150dpi color), Better (200dpi color), Best (300dpi color), and Excellent (600dpi color).
  • Document Protection — If scanning sensitive documents, ScanSnap Manager will allow users to password protect PDF files.

Businesses are relying more and more on extending staff beyond the
conventional office setting in order to reduce cost in terms of office
resources, utilities, and amenities. At the same time, businesses rely on
remote professionals to extend the reach of their offerings, remove
obstacles based on distance, build healthier and more personalized business relationships, and bring more customized services to their clients.

While on the road or working in home offices, workers are separated
from many office resources, limiting productivity, creating redundancy, and
impacting responsiveness to internal and external customers. Mobile
technology allows business professionals to interface more seamlessly with
business processes fundamentally tied to existing office automation.

The ScanSnap S300 mobile scanning solution arms traveling professionals
such as a lawyer, real estate, healthcare, or an insurance agent with the
ability to digitize documents instantly to protect critical business papers
and ensure there is no wasted time preventing the completion of a business deal or risk of losing a sale.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 scanner will be available after November 21,
2007 for $295 (U.S. list).
