Sometimes when you are mobile, you want to share your listening experience right? You carry your Zune, iPod, Axim, etc with you down to the park, you throw down your blanket and sit down in the sun for some relaxing music. Well I sometimes don’t want to sit there with some earbuds in my ears, so I use a set of cheaply made portable speakers. They sound horrible. I have been on the lookout for some higher quality portable speakers to carry around in my bag. Here are a couple new options I have caught lately.

Wrap this speaker in crinkled gold foil and you might be able to fool people into thinking it was an oversized Ferraro Rocher. But according to Sony Ericsson, the MBS-100 is its first portable speaker that’s able to stream music wirelessly from a phone via Bluetooth stereo. A fully charged internal battery delivers up to five hours of music playback. However, you’re out of luck if you need them for the holiday season–they’ll be available only in the first quarter of 2008 in selected Asia-Pacific markets.

ORBIT

Altec Lansing has launched its first ultra-portable iPod speaker. The Orbit, which is of course also suitable for other MP3 players, is designed to be robust and pocket / handbag sized but powerful.

To give rich sound through a small speaker, “Fusion 360″ technology has been built in so a cone design and custom-built speaker project a completely spherical sound field. It also has another couple of handy features – you can’t switch it on or off accidentally as you need to twist the speaker to do so, and you can wrap up the cable neatly using the integrated cable management. You should get 24 hours of playing time on just 3 AAA batteries, too. £29.99, available now from various retailers.

  • The ultra portable speaker is a good idea, but it will loose battery power too fast.
