noflytalk This is not unexpected, and I’m not sure that I don’t disagree with it. The US FAA has shelved any discussion on in flight mobile use for the “Foreseeable Future”. Stating that there was an outcry against mobile phone use meaning there were a lot of people with sense to know that we would be forced to listed to Mr. or Mrs. “I can’t hear so I will talk even louder to compensate” cell phone user. How many times has this happened in a restaurant or other public place where lack of desecration by  a cell phone user made life very aggravating! Now picture this on a very tightly confined airplane! I would vote no also. I think WiFi in flight is a much better idea. However, it wouldn’t take long for some knuckle head to Skype. Instant Messaging or emailing from the flight should be sufficient to stay in touch with your work or business.  Hopefully this can get accomplished in near future as a compromise.

US says no to in-flight mobile use

Aviation authorities in the United States have ruled out the use of mobile phones on planes for the “foreseeable future”, reports The Telegraph.

Les Dorr, of the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), told Telegraph Travel this week that proposals to lift the ban on in-flight mobiles had caused such an outcry they had been dropped.

… Within Europe, airlines planning to allow mobile use include Ryanair, Tap Air Portugal and Air France. Farther afield, Emirates, AirAsia and Kingfisher airlines intend to do likewise.”
