windowslivewriterliketouchflotrytouchcommander-b528touchcommander-thumb Since the iPhone and iPod Touch came out, the public has begun clamoring for Touch devices and software on Microsoft products.  High Tech Computer (HTC) has responded with its HTC Touch and its upcoming Polaris and Vogue, Conduits Pocket Player software has Touch capability, and Touch Commander (pictured) brings finger touch scrolling to the pocket pc.  To add to the pressure, Nokia’s new S60 will also feature Touch capability.

Who wants to pull out a stylus and touch miniscule parts of the screen to accomplish anything?  People want ease of use and Apple brought it to them.  And judging from the amount of products that are quickly springing up, it looks like it won’t be a passing fad.

Pocket PC Thoughts reported that the Boy Genius Report tested the HTC Touch and concluded "Windows Mobile is not made for devices with no buttons. Just navigating around this thing is a chore sometimes, and while HTC has stepped it up by adding a ‘20 key" keyboard that works like T9, it’s definitely frustrating to do anything that requires more than 3 letters."

Will the Windows Mobile 7 operating system be adapted to accommodate Touch?  My guess is Microsoft is well into WM7 development already and would have to make a major redesign to bring Touch to users.

Microsoft has always had the MIdas Touch.  Will they have it when it comes to pdas?

^ Good point. The iPhone simply has a smooth interface, but does not offer anything unique that other Windows Mobile devices can not already do.
  • I'm getting tires of all these reviews coming out claiming Microsoft and HTC are behind Apple in touch screen devices. Please stop using the word touch to describe a touch screen device. the Touch is a trademark from HTC and the name of their new phone they release BEFORE apple release their iPhone.

I have been using HTC Phones for 3 years and I rarely use the stylus and entering text on an HTC device is as simple as it is on the iPhone. I don't get how people think the iPhone revolutionized everything when it can't even do half the things HTC devices can do.
