pc_capture10 Good news for Google Map users! New version 1.7.1.4 has been released with some key enhancements. Major change includes route mapping, and turns are now marked on the map as well. Of course there still is no voice directions which is so important for small screen mobile devices while traveling. Missing also from the upgrade is the ability to map from current GPS location, which can be found on Windows Live Search Mobile. WLS also has some neat features like Categories, Gas Prices, and Movies, but both Google and WLS now share traffic updates which definitely gives the edge to the GPS Freeware war to WLS. There is one thing I do like about Google and that is Google does a much better job at low level aerial mapping than WLS, and seems to be more accurate at pinpointing your exact location than WLS. Google always gets me within 5-10 feet of my actual location, WLS is usually within 15-20 feet of my actual location. For scouting Hunting Land, or just dazzling your friends with your cool GPS Mobile Device, Google Maps wins out in that Category. Overall, Google has some work to do to catch up to Windows Live Search.

Check out some pictures after the break of the route mapping and turn marks from MoDaCo.com. I will be posting some additional pictures tomorrow so stay tuned!

Are there different version of Google Maps Mobile for different devices? I just downloaded GMM to my Treo 680 (Palm OS) and it's version 1.2.0.9.

Mapping from the GPS location works great. You just have to already have GPS location tracking active before getting directions. Then the option to use GPS location magically appears.

I fully agree that WLS still has multiple advantages however.
