Google Phone Announced

earns_google_caps108 Instead of one manufacturer for the much rumored phone, Google will provide an open software platform in which many manufacturers can participate, including HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung. 

The phones are due out in the second half of 2008 on Sprint and T-Mobile in the US.  After that it will be available in Europe and Asia. 

Google acquired a company called Android Inc. about three years ago, and used their platform for the phone.  They are also relying on the 34 member strong Open Handset Alliance to develop the phone. 

The platform will be free for handset manufacturers to load onto their phones, thus making it more attractive then the relatively more expensive Windows Mobile, palm and Symbian.  So how will Google generate revenue?  They will sell advertisements through it.
