Shameful figures for the Zune 30, but Zune 80 looks promising with over 20hours of playback time with Wi-Fi on.

sorry I didn't see the "OFF" mentioned in the article. Unless it was a typo and is now fixed. But no worries. Still 20 hours with the Wifi on is pretty good.

Jaxim, the second test is with it off. The thing that really gets me is the fact that wifi on or off, I am not even using wifi. The difference in the test could have been just an anomoly. I really don't think the wifi circuitry is even on in either test. Even though I had it enabled in the 1st tests, I would be willing to bet that the circuitry goes to "sleep" when not in use.

On the second test, I didn't wake the screens up as often since I knew approx when to start checking them this time around.

Results are fine. Expected better battery life than that with WiFi OFF.

2nd G Zune is losing too much battery with WiFi on.

20-24 hours is a great figure for the Zune 80 - and that's with the wifi turned on. I often turn off the wifi on my Zune because it sucks up so much battery. But with these tests, it looks like if I had the Zune80, I could continue to leave on the Wifi (which would thus support the "Social".)

Are you going to do a test with the Wifi turned off?
