skyfirebrowser Tired of Windows Mobile Pocket Internet Explorer? Okay, okay, dumb question I know. We all are frustrated with the pitiful excuse Microsoft puts on our treasured mobile device. And there are a host of third party software to make your PIE experience better. Some of them are even free. There are some other alternatives too. You can wait patiently for FireFox Mobile to come out. You can download Opera Mini for free, or pay to get their flagship mobile platform currently Opera Mobile 8.65 for about $25.00.

Well, if you are as ho hum about the Browsers I mentioned above, maybe you might be interested in Skyfire. What is Skyfire? I didn’t know until this morning. Skyfire is:

Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile web browser that makes browsing on your phone exactly like browsing on your PC. Now, you can use the web from your mobile phone with unprecedented speed and simplicity.

Well that sounds all well and good, but when I went to their website, they seem to think they got a winner! Skyfire boasts that it can play a variety of media content through your browser with no additional plugins or work around’s. “Skyfire gives you speedy page loads, full audio, video, images, dynamic Flash content, advanced Ajax, Java and more – just like your PC.” Skyfire along with being a media powerhouse, also claims to be fast:

Skyfire is faster than any mobile web browser you’ve ever used. You’ll load web pages as fast as your PC and eliminate the long delays and error messages you get with other browsers. That’s a big claim, so we encourage you to experience it firsthand – click here

So have I got you psyched out for Skyfire yet? Well, you’ll have to wait. Skyfire is currently getting ready for a public beta program that you can sign up for. The video looks awesome. They are running a Sprint Windows Mobile device and load several different websites using Skyfire. Most impressive and of specific interest to me was ESPN. It has a lot of flash  media playing and still loaded very fast. Skyfire looks to be a home run. Hopefully it will be released to the public beta soon. Using Skyfire with TouchFlo would be awesome!!

Netfront is a great working browser for WM6 mobiles like HTC Touch Dual. One of the wery best browsers is the soon-to-be-launched Opera 9.5 Mobile. It passes all the tests in http://dev.w3.org/2008/mobile-test/test.html.

Skyfire seems to have a winning concept - if, and only if - they stop jerking around and start releasing it massively to anyone that want to download it. Right now!

Sorry folks, you have a great piece of software but you don't get happy customers by pointing your finger at them.

Since I can't find Skyfire or get it anywhere on the spot I will stop looking and instead use my Opera 5.5 Mobile.
