Both PocketMac and Missing Sync have been around for years, so I’m surprised that they don’t support the entire 10.x line. You might try asking the developers if they have any older versions that work.

But can’t you just upgrade to 10.4 without buying a new computer?

I’d also suggest asking in the forums for two reasons:

* This article really has nothing to do with Macs and you’re kind of hijacking it.
* This is a blog article which gets harder to find as it gets older. Forum posts get moved to the top of the New Posts queue whenever somebody posts a reply.

thanks for the tips. i tried both but neither will work with my mac because they require mac 10.4 or higher and mine is 10.3.9. any other ideas short of buying a new computer?

I just got my first WM6 smartphone and am finding that to be true Pony99CA. Not that it is a big deal, it is just something I want to reflect … I hate seeing that Naming convention.

My device was saying WINDOWSMOBILE56 so I changed it to MotorolaQ9m. Now it says Motorola49. At least I have Motorola….

I don’t think Windows Mobile Device Center allows changing the actual Device Name/ID, though. It changes a description of the device.

You could always change the device name on a Smartphone (or Pocket PC) by editing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Ident\Name in the registry, though. However, with Vista Windows Mobile Device Center, that doesn’t seem to stick. I keep getting WINDOWSMOBILEnn instead.
