First Handheld Vibration Analyzer with Integrated Internet-Enabled Smartphone in a Single Instrument

Datastick Systems, Inc., announced today the first customer shipment of its handheld SiteConnex VSA-2215 Vibration Spectrum Analyzer, which allows machine maintenance personnel to collect and view vibration waveform and spectra measurement data, email measurement data, converse on the VSA smartphone, and send an receive e-mails or text messages.

“We believe this to be the first handheld vibration analyzer with an integrated, Internet-enabled smartphone in a single instrument,” said Penny Melrose, Datastick CEO. “The VSA-2215 enables immediate connectivity between inspection site and decision site for fast collaboration, so technicians, decision-makers, and consultants can work together seamlessly.”

The VSA-2215 SiteConnex Vibration Spectrum Analyzer and Collaboration system is a high-performance handheld vibration analyzer/data collector with a maximum frequency of 20,000 Hz and FFT resolution of up to 3,200 lines, and uses a Palm® Treo™ smartphone. It joins Datastick’s VSA-1215 Vibration Spectrum Analyzer for the Palm TX handheld computer, and its recently announced VSA-1225 for the Hewlett Packard hx2400-series or hx2700-series handheld Pocket PC running Windows Mobile®, due to ship in March.

“A maintenance technician can collect and view vibration data in waveform or spectra on a vibration data collector/analyzer, email the data to a colleague, talk on the phone about the measurements while looking at the results on the phone’s display, receive email or text authorizations from the colleague, and more – all with a single pocket-sized handheld instrument,” said Michael Scandling, Datastick Vice-President of Marketing.

The VSA-2215 SiteConnex Vibration Spectrum Analyzer includes a new VSA-2215 hardware module that attaches to the Palm Treo and has a standard BNC connector and low-noise input that accommodates and powers almost any ICP®-type piezoelectric accelerometer.

Also included is Datastick SpectrumSC software for the handheld – with new Datastick ManagerSC handheld file-management software, new Datastick ReviewSC handheld data-comparison software, and new integrated email software for the handheld – collects, displays, and stores waveforms and vibration FFT spectra, provides overall vibration alerts and cursor-display tools and much more. It displays peaks, overall vibration, and colored vibration alerts according to ISO standards or user-defined alert levels all on one high-resolution screen.

Datastick Direct Zoom display lets the user select an area of interest on the screen with the handheld’s stylus or a finger, and zoom up to 64 times. Measurement data is saved in the smartphone’s internal memory or on SD memory cards with capacities up to 2 GB each. Vibration data is exported to the desktop PC via Palm HotSync® technology or SD card – and now, by email from the smartphone.

Software for the desktop or laptop PC is also included. Datastick Reporting System software for VSA (DRS) with new Datastick Viewer software enables the recipient of the measurement data files to import them quickly into the Excel-based DRS program on the desktop, see the same data that the person sees on the smartphone VSA, write reports, publish to the web, and more.
