Remap that PTT button
This post was published 1 year 8 months 12 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. If your like me you don’t have PTT service and you get tired of hitting that button only to have it pop up the AT&T software asking if you want to enable PTT then you may wish to remap that button to something useful.
Before you begin note that messing around in the registry on your phone can cause problems if you make mistakes. Please make sure you have a backup of any data before proceeding.
There are a few steps involved in allowing you to map your own custom application to the PTT button.
- Delete the existing registry tree for the PTT button
- Create new registry entries for the button
- Assign your custom action to the button
- Soft reset
Now the details on each step:
1) Find your favorite registry editor and open the registry (see Doug’s earlier post on this if you need help). Search for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Services/PTT and delete the entire key and subtree. (select PTT and delete it)
2) Create the new registry keys
From HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
Add a new key called “40C6″
Add a string under the key called “Name” with the value “Button 6″
Add a new key called “40C7″
Add a string under this key called “Name” with the value “Button 6 (hold)”

3) Close your registry editor and navigate to Settings -> buttons and you should now see your two newly created button entries. Assign the custom actions to the button.

4) Perform a soft reset on your phone to clear the previous PTT service entries and you should be in business.
This was done and tested on the latest AT&T tilt Rom
