ipaq600Well, bad news for everyone looking to get their hands on the HP iPAQ 610 series smartphone. You know, the one with the cool navigation method.

In an email received today by one of our staff members, HP tells us that the 610 is not going to be offered any longer…

You recently registered via HP’s website to be notified when the HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator is available to purchase.

We appreciate your interest in this product.  However, due to recent legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies, HP has decided not to offer the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator to U.S. customers as previously planned.

Please consider other HP products that may meet your needs and at significant discounts!

This is quite unfortunate. I thought this would be a killer device. Oh well.

the iPAQ 910 is not confirmed also. I think that there are legal issues due to all the strange things about patents that are going on.

launch outside us is still planned

This device does not use Qualcomm chips... that being said it is listed as coming soon on the Canadian HP website.

Does this have anything to do with the recent Qualcomm / Broadcom spat? That's the only thing in my scant memory that "legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies" makes sense for.

If so, wouldn't the iPAQ 910 also be potentially affected? Unless it was already released / negotiated for before that judgement (for WCDMA / EVDO patents?) was passed...
  • haha... Yep. Well, it did leave the door for a "non US" launch, but it sounds like it's dead to me.

Legal issues between suppliers? That's unheard of!
