Ok, this is a really special link to a Zune recommendation. The fact that the writer is smart enough to go to the best college in the USA, The University of Alabama. Anyhow, Laura Pitts of the Crimson White (the University of Alabama’s Paper), shares her 5 must haves. What was #1? Zune!

Microsoft Zune – My boyfriend bought me my pink 30 GB Zune last year, and I love it! Not only does it hold 30 GB of music, photos and videos, it also comes in some pretty cool colors. The top three artists in my ears: Jimmy Eat World, Journey and, yes, Hannah Montana.

Read Scene it, Love it and thanks to the tipster. The one, the only, Cesar!

#1 Better Desktop software. That’s the one thing the frustrates the heck out of me more than the hardware. In my opinion, the software sucks. I have a love hate with the Zune. I love the device, but I loathe the software. The old software wasn’t perfect nor as pretty as the new one, but it still had many more features. You can  manage your sync list and more easily modify multiple songs’ meta data. With the new software, I still can’t modify video meta data. Video files don’t sync for no apparent good reason. You add a song/video to your library and thru windows explorer and it’s not very intuitive how to refresh your library to see this addition. Overall the software is not limiting and not very intuitive.

  • Xerosis

There is nothing wrong with the software…just use Windows Media Player and stuff to change meta-data…I’m sick of the "I hate the software" comments there isn’t anything missing except a few little features that can be done in another program anyways. It does what it’s supposed to: Puts crap on your Zune. Could be way worse, so stop with the QQ.

  • Jaxim

I would have to disagree with you. First off it has trouble doing what it is suppose to do in an intuitive manner: syncing videos sometimes doesn’t sync. And once the videos can’t get sync, the software attempts to sync the same video everytime you sync the Zune. There is no way to clear your sync list so it can forget that failed file transfer. Plus, (as  I said above) you add a song/video to your library and thru windows explorer and it’s not very intuitive how to refresh your Zune library to see this addition in the Zune software. That is something that the software should be able to do easily.

But I must disagree with you that the software shouldn’t be able to modify meta data, that you have to use a 3rd party software to do this. The old software allowed you to do this. Musicmatch, windows media player, iTunes can do this and they are all used to sync music to mp3 players. If what you say is that the Zune software should only be used to transfer music, then they Zune team should open the Zune up to allow other music editors the ability to transfer music to your Zune. We shouldn’t be locked to this piss poor software.

I am seriously thinking of using that hack that allows you to use Windows Media Player to sync your Zune instead of the Zune software.

  • Xerosis

^ I never said the software shouldn’t be able to edit meta-data. And your syncing issues are your problem, I don’t have any of those.

  • adamross55

I think the software is just Eh. Nothin special. When i edit my song names and crap it switches back to what it was before i edited it. just little nuisance problems

Adamross55: I actually have been having that same problem, and what I noticed is sometimes It just takes time… I changed it in list form, and in browse form it still hadnt fixed it. The next day I checked, and it had fixed the artist. But you can also just change it through the song file Itself as I had said.

  • EUPHOR1C

When I update the meta data in WMP 11, it does not automatically update the Zune software. Do I have to delete all of my music out of the Zune player and then import it all back in for the changes to take place? That’s like 100+ gb of music.

  • adamross55

Yea i noticed that it does take some time to fix. Cause yesterday i edited the artist in list view and the same thing it didnt fix itself in browse view. Hopefully it has today.

^ Did it end up having it? b/c I changed some more and they worked out great. Btw.. I’m not a fan of this person listening to Hannah Montana. lol(she’s corrupting our youth)

  • adamross55

Haha true she is corrupting our youth. I still gotta check but as of last night it was changed in list view but not browse.

  • http://www.soccerfreak24.co.nr Soccerfreak24

Yah, list seems to update quite fast, mainly b/c you can physically change it there.. but i’m not sure why it takes so long to update in browse form. And btw, I still don’t get how any adult, or teen could listen to hannah montana, after all.. don’t they realize it’s not like.. real music? It’s a character/band made up for the sole purpose of keeping kids on disney channel. She’s not a real band, and I’m quite sure she doesn’t write her own music.(nor does she play an instrument)

  • adamross55

Soccerfreak24: well i am ripping a lot of cd’s into zune software. I had a problem and i had to call zune support cause cd’s wouldnt rip. But yea she is fake and everyone loves her i dont know why. My neighbors went to her concert and loved it. Its just kinda dumb.

  • azaas

well to be honest i’ve been having several issues with the zune software, but everything seems to be working fine the last month or so.So at the moment i can pretty much say i’m happy with it,as long as it stays that way :)
But even back then when the software was messing with my rip settings [LOL] i never regreted buying the zune cause god it’s one hell of a media player :)
It’s the same analogy to the ipods.Ipods in general are pretty cool but itunes SUKCS!!! [especialy when running inside of windows it can be a brutal experience hahaha]

Good to know my Zune review is a big hit with everyone. Just for the recordZune was number 3 on my list – Buffy and Angel were number one. The copy editors changed it!
