November 7, 2009 – 9:36 pm | Comments

A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

nuerom2 If you haven’t heard by now, Microsoft is planning on a releasing Windows Mobile 6.1 very soon. Screen shots, videos have been circulating for some time now. Most of the mobility world has met it with ho-hum enthusiasm. From MSMobiles.com:

Here are the highlights:

  • Office Mobile now includes also One Note Mobile application – apart from Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile, one new application is available – it can record voice notes and drawings and textual notes
  • Internet Explorer now has function “Zoom Out” what enables page-overview mode and better overall navigation through web pages
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 still is based on Windows CE 5.2 so no upgrade to Windows CE 6.0
  • SMS chat view mode is available so SMS messages can appear in threaded-way – more comfortable to follow SMS conversations
  • instead of “Settings / Memory / Running Programs” now a Task Manager is available with possibility to set settings of executed threads/processes like CPU (indication of dual-core Windows Mobile devices?) and memory
  • new menu item “Managed Programs”
  • the much expected improvements in usage for finger based navigation – are nowhere to be found! (apparently users will need to wait till 2009 for Windows Mobile 7 to get them)

But with all things mobility, the ROM has been leaked and has caused a whirl wind frenzy in all the forums where Chef’s are furiously trying to Hack the ROM and port it to their favorite devices along with a host of other plug-ins, updates, registry hacks, etc. Easily the most famous ROM Chef for our Device is Duttythor who generally resides over at xda-developers.com. He has a long list of very well proven ROM’s to his credit. His most notable and recent is the DualTouch ROM he has ported to the Tilt/TyTN II. There are 2 versions that are really popular. His v3 and v4. I highly recommend the v4 version as it has TouchFlo and the HTC Sprint Cube that works really well on the ROM. There are some bugs, but he has promised a v4 update soon. That is until WM6.1 leaked. Even without a device (his is broke) he has managed to port the 6.1 ROM to our Tilt/TyTN II. It is in the BETA stages, and is being tested by a handful of “senior” members, but feedback is looking really promising. The BETA 6.1 ROM from Dutty of course has been leaked and you can download it here:

I am waiting for the public release mainly because I finally have got Dutty’s v4 ROM tweaked just the way I like it. I am going to enjoy this ROM for a least a day or two! I will run down more highlights and benchmarks in the near future when it is released. Until then, ENJOY! We have the Best Device Out!

I truly appreciate the part of this post which talks about the different Dutty roms and what it is you've found to be proven etc. I'm a new HTC user and trying to learn the basics at xda-dev can be quite overwhelming. I look forward to more posts about proven ROMS. THANKS!
