BlackBerry Connect Users: RIM Outage on March 22nd

While this may not affect most of the Tilt community, I’m sure there are some, like myself, who use the BlackBerry Connect feature on their Tilt for access to email, calendar, etc..  For those who do use BlackBerry Connect, you will want to be aware that Research in Motion will have a planned outage on March 22nd, between 1am and 6am EDT, as has been reported on a few sites.  This outage will affect North American customers.  I’ve heard the times given as between 1am and 5am, as well as 2am and 6am.  So, just to be safe, I’m adding both times. :)  During the outage, you will not be able to send or receive emails on your device.  Given the timeframe for the outage, this should have minimal impact for customers.

Hopefully this outage will not extend beyond the allotted period.  We don’t want a repeat of prior events, do we RIM?

  • The RIM email system is okay. I don't think it's horrible. It does one thing and it does it well. I don't find them to be difficult, either.

But yes, RIM's handhelds are quite lackluster. Again, they do one thing great, but everything else is "meh."

    Hence, why I got a Tilt. ;)

I've talked to several IT people who say that the RIM email system is horrible...that both servers and handsets are unnecessarily difficult to implement, configure, and upgrade.

Push technology is pretty much standard in mobile email...RIM had better start building most robust multimedia features and implement touchscreen technology if they want to compete.
