Werner “Menneisyys” Ruotsalainen had a post on Smartphone & Pocket PC mag letting folks know that the latest, 1.2.1 version of CorePlayer has JUST been released, with the long-promised Mobile YouTube support.

But the BIGGEST reason why YouTube is better in CorePlayer then on YouTube.com or any other third party application? CorePlayer is the first media player to feature Configurable YouTube quality control…. You control the bandwidth and quality that your platform can handle. From Low, Medium, to High quality (H.264) streams. Once you start to play with the YT interface in CP and play with the quality settings you will see what we mean by ‘Great’!!!

Elrendhel: The problem, IIRC, is the fact they had to license codecs... and that they're selling CoreAVC, which is contained in this. It's like expecting PocketMusic or PocketPlayer to be free.. and I also recall them saying they'll have a demo or free version out later, but right now they're still adding features and getting it deployed on all the platforms that they indicate it will support.

I bought it because I liked TCPMP, and it works GREAT for mobile video - the videos are as smooth as they'd be on an iPod Touch, and I still get to work with my other h.264 videos (among others) with the program.. that consumes a lot less CPU than PocketPlayer does. It's a jack-of-all-trades for me, and one that I tend to use often.

In the meantime, you CAN use MobyTube, but I find this works better as far as providing streaming h.264 support is concerned. And it runs somewhat faster than the YouTube application on the Touch does, in my experience.

Sounds great, but unfortunately the product is no longer free. They want to charge a premium amount for a Media Player, and I can't even download a trial version. That's the real shame...
